Directions
Instructions: Assembly: **Slip the end of the hose over the cap on the cylinder. It may be necessary to heat the tip of the 72″ vinyl hose (by holding it under a hot-water faucet for 5 seconds). The hose must fit tightly. Hot water will also eliminate any kinks. **To Activate Self-Starting Siphon: **A. Place an empty bucket near and below aquarium. **B. First, put the end of hose in the bucket, then submerge the cylinder in the aquarium until it fills with water completely. **C. Keeping the loop of the hose low over the top of the tank, rapidly move the GVC cylinder up and down until siphoning begins (about five times). **D. Once siphoning has begun, place the open end of the cylinder in the gravel to begin cleaning. Gravel and debris will rise in the cylinder. Debris is siphoned into the bucket with the water. The gravel falls down when the cylinder is lifted. **Vacuum the gravel bed at least once a month, while removing no more than 25% of the water. Multiple cleanings may be required to vacuum all the gravel. Refill the tank, adding appropriate water treatments.
